If you’re looking to save a little money furnishing your home, consider purchasing 2nd hand furniture. There are many different places you can buy these items from, both online and offline, from other users, or from a store that deals with 2nd hand goods.

The following is a good list of places where you can buy pre-owned furniture.

You might even find some items which are totally brand new or unused but not sold (because they’re display sets). They do not have an updated website or social media profile online, so it’s best that you drop by their warehouse in person instead. This is their Facebook profile.

Carousell

Carousell is a popular online marketplace and smartphone app where users buy and sell first hand or pre-owned items. Most of the users barter and deal through the mobile app, however, the website is quite easy and convenient to use as well. Carousell has a Furniture & Home category, where you’ll find quite an extensive range of furniture and other household items (like bathroom basins, or even cloth hangers), up for sale at relatively low prices. If you’re looking for second hand furniture, you’ll definitely be able to find a good bargain here. The website is quite active as well, and there’s always new listing being posted every few minutes. If you find an item that you like, you can send the seller a message, together with your offer price. Browse their list of used furniture here.

Hock Siong

Hock Siong is a popular and well established 2nd hand furniture store in Singapore; they sell a whole range of items for the home, not limited to furniture. The place is situated at 153 Kampong Ampat, where they have a huge warehouse that stores and displays all of the items that they have for sale. If you’re looking for vintage furniture or old style home decorations, you’ll be able to find them at Hock Siong. You can spend quite a bit of time digging through all the salvaged and up-cycled stuff. The staff at Hock Siong are very active on their facebook page, and they’re regularly updating it with photos of “new” items that’s just arrived in their store. You will also be able to get a hold of them quite easily by messaging them directly on facebook, should you have any enquiry about a specific furniture. Check them out here.

Craigslist

Craigslist is one of the oldest classifieds on the internet. Many people in Singapore still use it to buy and sell various items and services. You’ll find quite an active listing of used furniture ads on the site; many different items up for sale, from mattresses to sofas. Craigslist is good because unlike other online classifieds, the site is not filled with paid advertisements. Most of the content that you see on the site are created by users, who are really trying to sell their items. Craigslist also allows you to quickly message the seller anonymously. Craigslist is simple and straightforward to use, however, unlike Carousell, it doesn’t have a mobile app, so mobile users might not find the site as accessible. You can view their list of furniture here.

Gumtree

Gumtree is a popular online classifieds website in Singapore. The website features a furniture section, and there are quite a number of 2nd hand furniture items up on offer. The site is not as active as Carousell, however, you’d still be able to find new items being posted up every hour. Some of the items you can find there include sofas, coffee tables, and wardrobes. You can get items quite cheaply, for example, a recliner sofa for $60, or a 3 door small wardrobe for just $20. The downside to Gumtree is that there are a lot of ads on the site, and the actual postings from the users are quite far down in the webpage. As a result, the user experience of the website is not as good as the other options recommended in this article. You can see the list of furniture here.

Cash Convertors

Cash Convertors is a second hand dealer in all types of items, including furniture. You will be able to buy and sell your 2nd hand furniture items at Cash Convertors. The store features an online catalogue of furniture items, over 200 to be more specific. However, many of their older items are already sold, and there’s actually only about 40 items that are still available. Most of the items up for sale consists of vintage looking furniture like rosewood dining table, wooden tv consoles,  or vintage Chinese cupboard. Some of the items aren’t exactly cheap, because they’re restored vintage or antique furniture. However, you’d still be able to find a good deal or two, for normal 2nd hand furniture. You can check out their list of furniture here.
